Hey Lads,

The old boys have come up with some Saturday event in the early morning. We would like to play some 7's, as some of them are serving NS now but got nothing better to do on saturday morning and some of the lads are heading to NS soon, so they hope get some fitness before everything get worst.

In the meantime the U-14 is really bad and they should get more game experience as what we think. On behalf of the U-17 they just can wait to play together once more before they gonna left this F8*&ing school.

So please register a team of 7-10 if your team is bloody fit then reg 7 players, if not try to get 10 of them lah. Please send your teamlist to ukickass2@hotmail.com. The date line will be 24 of july 2009 5pm. The first day of the match will be on 25 of july saturday morning most most most probably will be held over at BBSS feild each game will be played 7 mins.

U-14 is a joke

The U-14 performance is a joke, first they never turn up for training, second they don't know what is going on in the park and ended up in a joke.

We got smashed and I mean seriously SMASHED by the Monfort. It was a good game, some of the players played with their hearts out but some are real pussy. We hope you guys come down for training and also the upcoming Saturday 7's . We lost to Monfort by 84 - 0 just for the information.

So please train guys, we want you guys to learn how to play and understand the game, winning or losing is not the bottom line. Just learn how to play like big boys and not play like pussy.

U-14 made it again

Bukit Batok maintained their play-off push with an impressive 22-12 victory over Pierce Sec at Bishan Park.

Gladwin Tan and Pow Jie Ming "Power" scored tries to help the Redwingers clinch their first win on their day one of the season.

Gladwin Tan "The Gladiator" scored a hat trick on match day one and convert one of the conversion. On the other hand Pow Jie Ming "Power" scored only one try.

Pierce scored the opener and didn't convert the try on the 15 min (5-0), but just after that Elfy "BigBoot" kick into their 22m from the restart mark.

Pierce fullback was wondering where the ball is as Richie Tay "Fluffy" the flanker grab the ball from no where inside Pierce 22m. He got tackle as he was just 5m away from the try line, but Gladwin Tan "The Gladiator" came to his support and Richie Tay "Fluffy" offload the ball to him, and Gladwin Tan "The Gladiator" score a simple try at the corner of the try area (5-5) Missed convertion.

After 12 mins of hard fight, pierce manage to break through our defence and score their 2nd try of the day and also converted the try on the half hour mark and lead the 2nd time (12-5).

Coach Zaki insipre the team after he gave them some really good scolding, as the team go in the 2nd half and dominate the game. Gladwin Tan pick the ball up after winning a scrum and go all the way alone from 50m and score his 2nd try of the day over at the corner but miss the convertion (12 - 10) 45 min. On the 50 min Elfy kick an up and under ball into the opposition half and Zul pick up inside their 22m as he pass the ball to Pow Jie Ming straight after recieving it. Pow then dashed all the way as he burn through the Pierce backs and score the try (12-15) and Gladwin Tan convert the try to make the score (12-17).

As we are leading the team was full of confidence, Sammy Goh "Scoop" the scrum half run 30m away from the tryline to score his debut try,but it was not allow after he drop the ball just before placing it down. Soon after that Gladwin Tan make another remarkable try, running all the way from the 50m alone dashing and snashing through the Pierce Defence alone bring the score board to (12- 22) Missed convertion.

U17 boys did it again

The U17 boys did it again... They won the M1 Tens on 3rd June 209. Beat Raffles Instituition! Lost out to Saints in the finals (3:0). but alas, made history by being the only team so far that reached and got something in the Cup finals.This is big news!Players: Tan Hon Tat, Tan Jian Wei, Wong Kin Heng, Philip Tan, Sachin, Ong Guo Yong, Md Rashid, Edward, Tan Puo Kai (Cheerleader), Sherman Tang, Shahrizal, Abdul Hakim. Dear Zaki,

We want to express our gratitude to Standard Chartered Bank, Singapore Rugby and SCB Rugby Development Officers like your good self and those that were here before you, for contributing towards the development of rugby in Bukit Batok Secondary School.

Rugby was initiated by a group of sec 2 boys who wanted to learn a new sport (i.e. rugby) and hence approached me, Feidzal to teach them, as I was a former player during my schooling days. The boys initially played touch rugby, then as the numbers grew, they planned to play contact rugby in the following year.

Rugby was not supposed to be a formal CCA, but as the boys put in tremendous efforts then, we pled to the Principal to make it official. Hence, rugby was christened in August 2002.

Rugby was a choice game initially by the first group of boys because of their interests. However, as years gone by, rugby is seen as a CCA to keep at risk students in school by letting them let off steam in the pitch and at the same time, teach them good attitudes towards the game, which should relate to them outside the game.

The school does not have high expectations towards the rugby team in BBSS. We have a measly budget to run the club. Even so, they do not abandon the team but support it by providing other support such as transportation and drinks.

The school team has developed since its infancy. It has a larger following in school and popularity has grown. Some of the past students have one to become coaches and come back to school to train current students the game. Some students have also gone to clubs and national teams. BBSS had almost played in all rugby tournaments in Singapore that was condoned by SRU.

From its infancy, Standard Chartered Bank had brought in foreign students to experience Singapore rugby as Rugby Development Officers and they had coached BBSS teams well since. Also SCB had brought in Singapore Sevens then and it was a good platform for students to watch world-class rugby in Singapore. Standard Chartered Bank had helped definitely helped the development of rugby in the western region of Singapore, especially BBSS.

This is to all the people that is writing on the tag board. This blog is link to the school website and we notice that this guy with the name of Feng Hua is stirring up some arguement. Please ignore what he is saying and stop answering him back.

He is a coach that coached Monfort as we know, and he is a really bad coach as what I can say.
As a rugby player or a coach we learn about the rules and the game. After the game we go into the tunnel and shake hands or even cheer for the winning team. Some of the older genrations might have a toast for the winning team after the match at a bar. This is the siprit of the game, that we lads should learn.

He is too childish and not mature, is really a shame to himself. If you ignore him he will then be talking to himself. We are here to play the game and to learn and enjoy the game and not to stir up a fight. I'm sad to say that he is not fit to be a coach, as all these small things he can't take it, how in future he can do big things like coaching the national team or clubs for example? He may be good but he just don't have the discipline to be fit into that position. Guys so just lets forget bout him and play our rugby, just ignore this person in our tag board.

Finals Results and Match report

Jurong Sec 34 vs 0 BBSS

The game was a disappointment, we lost badly and greatly. Before the game most of our players have butterflies in our stomach as Jurong secondary supporters flooded the CCAB Stadium. On the other hand there are only a handful of our regular supporters from BBSS and we are greatful that Mr Feidzal and Mr Sham came down to support us.

The first 5 minutes is a great one, we enter their zone and got a few hard hits, but with the Jurong crowd giving all their support to their team and our team lack of confidence, they turn over the ball and started to attack into our halves.

The Jurong's flyhalf kick into their try zone and was awarded a 5 meter scrum as Wallance make a big mistake. Initially Wallance thought the ball was out and wanting to have a quick 22 kick off but due to lack of experince in the finals he got too nervous and make an unforgetable error. As jurong have a scrum just right outside their try zone and their forwards just keep knocking on our door and they finally found their 1st try. Their 2nd try was an easy one as our boys just totally switched off, they converted the convertion just right underneath the post and they are up by 12 - 0 just before the half time.

Second half was even worst, Hon tat make lots of errors in his kicking and give away lots of opportunity and we are down by 24 - 0. At the hour mark Paul "The Butcher" came in for Sharizal as he was having a slight fever and flu on that day (thanks to all his hardwork Sha-lizard). Nurrudin "Stoner" came in for Alun- Wyn "Mr B.I.G Balls" and our scrum are really stable at that moment with "The Butcher" weight added probably a few tonnes for the jurong forwards (just Kidding). But we still make a few big mistakes,it was Wallance yet again and we lost our scrum and awarded a free kick to them just right outside our 22 , they score a few tries after that. Coach Zaki discuss to Asst Coach Alex and they decided to let all the players have a run in the finals.

After all we lost badly 34 - 0, Coach Alex said : " Disappointing absolutely horrendous, we are not in a good shape, we come so near but yet so far . I'm truly sad about what the team played and speechless." and he also say, "I think the lads work hard previously and deserve to get 2nd in the tournament. I have to praise Jurong for their overwhealming crowd and their brillant players. If we have the numbers of players they had and the crowd ,we will be able to have a close game (Laughing) as we only have 22 players this time round."

Anyway the team is really good that they make it to the finals and we are all happy that BBSS name is being shared in the SRU website and the media to Singapore. Lastly Good jobs palyers don't be sad, but just feel good that you guys have played in the finals before.

Red Wings Captain Spencer Tan:

It’s always great to make into the finals and our players just can't wait to play the finals. The whole team is excited at the opportunity to win our first ever silverware in 7 years of our school rugby history. We realise that we are up against a great team and experience one, but we are all confident in our abilities at the school and can’t wait for tuesday.

This is to Bukit Batok and Bukit Batok Secondary History, I hope my Principals, teachers and fellow school mates will come down on Tuesday to show us their support. I really hope the crowd will stir up the team morale. We will train hard and most of all play hard on tuesday.

Alun-Wyn firmly believes Reds are a stronger team than Jurong and he is feeling confident ahead of tuesday's final clash at Evans road.“Jurong have some good lads and a good coach, but we know we are stronger,” he said.Confidence is high in the Reds camp after the Reds secured tuesday's semi-finals with a great defence.The result boost Reds back to their top form of the season after losing all their games in the pool stage, and the hard-earned win bring them to the finals.

Alun-Wyn hopes that this will make the team mentality stronger."In my opinion we are the best team in the bowl, and our results shows that," he said. "We have a bad time in the pool stage, but in the knock out bowl we have show people what we can do and what we are capable of."The Reds did just that, reaffirming that Bukit Batok rugby are well in the hunt for the bowl cup this season.

Alun-Wyn bantered with RWblogspot. "My nickname is 'Mr Big Balls' doesn't mean I got big balls," he joked. "But if I have one injured shoulder I'll still tackle on that day! We know it will be a difficult game. Their backs are dangerous players, and they work well as team."

Reds March on to Police Cup Bowl Finals

Red Wings RFC, impressively disposed of Plate relegated team Montfort to book a one way ticket to CCAB and give themselves every chance of making it all the way to win the Bowl Cup for the first time in 7 years.

Veteran Reds Winger, Doug Ong Guo Yong, admitted he could not believe he was heading for the Bowl Finals after losing all games in the pool stage.

Doug Ong admitted:

"I am going to the Finals and cannot believe it.
I thought that today's game will be a difficult one, as Montfort walked over their previous game. Our lads have been playing an extra game after the pool stage and when we hear that Montfort walk over, we know that this game going to be a tiring one. We tired our best and never gave up,I know we will be getting the Bowl back home to Bukit Batok."

Red Wings hire new coach Zaki

Muhammad Zaki has been appointed as the Red Wings Coach for the 2009 Police Cup series.

ZAki, 23, has been playing rugby since primary school.He was part of the National Mens Team who won the Asian Division 1 Championship last year and is currently training with the squad for the A5N. During his National Service days, he played an integral part for the Engineers Formation Team and also represented SAFSA.

"I have always had ambition to coach but have never put any timeline on it," he said.
"I am obviously thrilled to have the opportunity to work with so many young players and it will be a new experience for everyone. I have always looked to teach the game to be played with logic and to develop intelligent performance among my teams. I hope the Red Wings players enjoy the change and I can't wait to start."

Mr Feidzal the rugby master of BBSS rugby told RED WINGS RFC Blogspot, " Previously we got alot of good coaches, but these coaches aren't locals and they are here for internship, they will just help out a few months and then left. The bottom line is to get a coach that will stay for a few years and develop these lads into great players." said Feidzal.

" I appoint Coach Zaki because he is a young local which I think he can help us to improve our batch of young players and sooner or later we can be like the next Pioneer Secondary school, which I was their rugby Master previously."

Choosing a pair of boots
Be more concerned with finding boots that fit you than those which look the flashiest.

A player will stand out because of their ability rather than the boots they're wearing.

It's important to understand the shape of your feet and your running style.

Find out whether you're flat-footed or have a high arch.

Ideally rugby boots will fit snugly, although if your feet are still growing it's advisable to allow a little bit of room.

Also, different players prefer different fits.

As forwards rely on lower body strength for power in scrums, they need extra support around the ankle to help prevent foot injuries.

Kickers prefer a tight-fitting boot because it gives them a better feel for the ball, while props like a high ankle cut for extra support in scrums.

It's worth wearing the same types of socks you would wear on the pitch when you try on a boot for size.

Uppers
Leather and synthetic boots are both available and there are advantages with each.

Leather moulds itself to the shape of your feet but can stretch out of shape in wet conditions.

Synthetic boots are often lighter and less expensive.

Try and find soft uppers, this will prevent potential injuries - you may even find that a boot that's a mix of leather and synthetics is best for you.

Screw-in studs
This type of boot tends to be popular because players can adjust their studs depending on the conditions.

If the pitch is muddy then it's worth using a longer set of studs, changing to shorter studs on a drier day.

When changing or tightening studs it's a good idea to put a bit grease to the thread to prevent them from rusting.

Studs
As rugby is a full contact sport, wearing the wrong kind of studs can do you - or a member of the opposition - a lot of harm.

Referees will check whether your boots have any sharp edges or ridges, but it's also your duty to make sure your boots and studs are in good order.

Former Red Wings Coach Nick Mangos have faith with Euan Morrison as coach of BBSS next season.

The 22-year-old, who coached the club between 2007 and 2008, has total confident that the new coach will develope BBSS rugby to it's new level.

Former Royal High Corstorphine RFC player Morrison, who has coached Edinburgh District under 15s boys have confidence taking up this job.

"This is the first time that we have had the possibility of being privileged to have a coach from Scotland as normally we hired coach from Wales or England," said BBSS president Feidzal Aris.

"The club/school has turned a new page in its history."

From every nook and corner we have gathered the "The Spirit of Red Wings Rugby" here at The Red Wings Park Bukit Batok, the home of BBSS Rugby. To don the traditional red and white hoops,bestowed by the colour of red from The Spartans; it's still worn today when BBSS takes on the pitch. A voice resounds and trumpet sounds to answer our school call. All that sweat and heart we played as a team with true courage and team spirit. BBSS Rugby will train you become not only a rugby player but a good discipline person in the near future.

Rugby has been played in BBSS since 2002 and it found resurgence in interest when we moved from Bukit Batok to previous Toh Tuck Campus. In total there are about fifty members in the team and the Alumni arecommitted to develop this sport in BBSS and Singapore.

Rugby as a sport in BBSS aims to promote the physical and skill development of its players as a staging platform to propel them to great endeavours in the club and international scenes. It is a wholesome CCA which caters to the social and affective development of its members or in other words we have good fun along the way. it is a journey that all will partake and rugby as the vehicle to fulfil the attributes of a BBSSians at graduation and as a gentleman or lady of the future.

Cougars under pressure as Reds combine team travel to Jurong Junior College

The pressure will continue to mount on Cougars coach Salmat on Saturday morning as his struggling team host Combined Red Wings in Jurong Junior College on 25th Oct Saturday morning.

The Reds are the favourites compared to the Cougars and JJ are also well-placed with some training going recently in their campus, but consecutive defeats against The Reds have sapped the confidence of the Cougars who are suffering a minor shock.

Genesis of a new CCA
The BBSS Rugby Football Club was set up in the middle of 2003 when
the Secondary-two students approached Mr. Feidzal to learn about
the sport. Thus, we approached the SRU for assistance and managed
to put up 6 teams to participate in the M1 Fun-Touch Competition on
19th September 2003.

The six teams of 5 players put up a good show but were unable to
amass enough tries to qualify for the final round.

Since then, the boys have been training regularly for the 15 a-side ,
10-a-side and 7-a-side Under-17 contact rugby competitions.
We are ever always recruiting new, younger members to
join in the “aggressive gentlemen” group.
